Student Loan Forgiveness for Nurses

Over 45 million people in the United States are struggling to make their monthly student loan payments, and millions more see economic and personal opportunities pass as they prioritize paying down their debt. Does this sound like you or someone you know?

Many nurses qualify for free federal programs that can help reduce their monthly payments and eventually lead to student loan forgiveness, but these lifeline programs are significantly under-enrolled.

WSNA members who are members of a Local Unit are also members of American Federation of Teachers. AFT offers webinars to explain the program including recent updates and changes.

Attention Members with Parent Plus Loans

There is a one-time opportunity available to you to have past payments made eligible for public service loan forgiveness. If you have parent plus loans, there are steps that need to be taken before April 30, 2023. Attend an AFT webinar to learn more.

AFT members have access to a Summer, an online resource to help student loan borrowers. All WSNA members who are members of a local unit are AFT members. For members who are not represented by WSNA for collective bargaining, there is an option to become an AFT affiliate member in order to access Summer.

“Meet Summer—an online resource, started by student loan borrowers who wanted to help others avoid bad information and bad actors in the student loan market. Summer harnesses the expertise of public policy experts to optimize borrower options, and it uses technology to make the process easy and secure. The AFT trusts Summer to help our members navigate the student loan repayment landscape.”
